The best family dish to bring to pot lucks, family parties and just any time you feel like something hearty. This dish came to so many family parties I can't even recall how many times it was my staple.

Place butter cream and garlic in a jug, mix until combined.

Preheat oven to 180C/350F

Peel the potatoes and slice them 3mm thick or use a slicer.

spread 1/3 of the potatoes in a baking dish, pour over 1/3 of the cream mixture and scatter with 1/3 of the salt and pepper sprinkle with cheese.

repeat for the 2nd and 3rd layer but do not finish with cheese on the top layer, will be added later.

Cover and bake with foil or cover lid for 1 hour 15 min or until the potatoes in the middle are soft. Use a knife to test.

top with cheese and bake again with foil or lid off for an addition 10-15 min. or until golden brown and bubbly, stand for 5 min before serving.
1 1/2 Cups Cream full fat
2 garlic cloves minced
30g unsalted butter
1.25kg Potatoes
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
2 1/2 cups mozzarella
2 tsp thyme leaves
